First Major update - new content and fixes
The first major update to The Tree That Touched The Moon has been released! It adds new content and fixes a lot of issues reported by players.
Here's a detailed changelog:
Content Updates
- New level: The Arcane Forge
- New basic spell: Focus, and new advanced spells: Ray of Hope, Destroy and Sharpen.
- Advanced Wands: starting from level 3 The Petrified Library you can now find wands that carry advanced spells. Advanced wands only have 10 charges instead of 20.
- New Relics: Transform Ring and Lucky Coin.
- Each enemy now has a custom death message.
- Enemies now drop Shards of Wisdom upon defeat. You also gain bonus Shards of Wisdom for reaching the final room of each level. At the end of the run, your score is increased by 1 for each Shard of Wisdom owned.
- The Ghost Merchant: an NPC who always appears before you enter a portal chamber. You can purchase items from him for Shards of Wisdom.
- New reward event: “Discover Sage's Notes”, which gives you a choice between a new basic spell, fusing spells or Shards of Wisdom.
Balancing Changes
- Damage and healing spells now have base power equal to a set percentage of your Spellpower (e.g. Fire deals damage equal to 80% of your Spellpower, Harm – to 60% etc.). You start the game with 10 Spellpower. (In the old system, where each spell had a numerical basic damage to which Spellpower bonuses were added, after gaining enough bonuses low base damage, but accurate basic spells were too powerful compared to advanced spells with high base damage, but lower accuracy; now high base damage spells gain more power from bonuses than low base damage spells).
- Changed the last reward option for defeating a boss, from receiving Healing and Explosive Shards to “+Fuse two of your basic spells and +1 Spellpower”.
- Additional reward option added to the event which lets you pick between a random staff and a random spell – now you can also choose to obtain 1 Healing and 1 Explosive Shard.
- Additional reward option added to the event which offers you two relics to choose from – now you can also choose to gain 10 Shards of Wisdom.
- Rewards distribution in all levels was slightly modified.
- The following enemies now resist “neutral” damage instead of their original resistances: Bright Carving, Breath Taker, Master of the Void. This includes resistance to damage from Explosive Shards. New enemies Thieving Homunculus and Magnetic Spirit also resist neutral damage.
- Creating a new advanced spell through fusing adds 25 points to your score (increased from 10).
- Changed how the Imbue spell works: it now gives the enemy a random elemental resistance and weakness to the last elemental damage type that enemy was hit with. (elemental damage types are: fire, water, ice, air, holy and dark). If there is no last damage type, or the last damage type is “neutral”, the weakness is assigned randomly. Additionally, improved the success rate of the spell from 50% to 70%.
- Increased the success rate of the Negate spell from 30% to 50%.
- Changed how the enemy move Cold Touch works. New version:
Cold Touch: deals 50% of the enemy's base damage as ice damage. May stun the target for 1 turn; the stun chance is 70%, -20% per each previous consecutive use of Cold Touch.
Accuracy: 90%
Critical rate: 10%
- Changed the enemy move Shard Eater. New version:
Shard Eater: randomly consumes either a Healing or an Explosive Shard and regains 10 HP. For each shard eaten, this enemy drops 2 Shards of Wisdom when defeated.
- Decreases the frequency of the move Cruel Curse used by the Cursed Almanac.
- Swapped Dark Armour's move Boost for Enfeeble.
Interface & Gameplay Improvements
- If you're ever without any damage spells (which may happen after fusing spells/swapping a spell for a new one), you'll immediately get an event that provides you with a random basic damage spell (Fire, Water, Ice or Harm).
- A “Next Turn” button appears in the combat screen if you're ever at full HP and only have healing spells, so that the player isn't prevented from acting (because of the new event which gives you an attack spell whenever you're without one, such a situation is most unlikely, but you technically can get yourself into it if you really try).
- Added a “Continue” button to the Main Menu Screen. If there is a saved checkpoint, after quitting and relaunching the game you can continue from that checkpoint (Caution: starting a new game or ending a run by clicking “New game” on the game over or win screens deletes the saved checkpoint data).
- After exiting the Spellbook or the Relic screen, the previously displayed exploration message is still visible.
- The enemy's current resistance and weakness is now displayed below its HP
- Persistent Spellbook: unlocked spellbook entries are now saved across all playthroughs. (Note: this feature makes use of the Twine story metadata and may not work in private browsing modes.)
- Discovered fusion combinations are now included in the Spellbook.
- You can now go back from the “Fuse” and “Replace spell” screens and pick a different reward.
- Fixed an issue when you wouldn't get points for winning against a Sand Hunter if it killed itself with its Self-destruct move.
Other changes
- Updated the downloadable PDF Spell Sheet.
